the city is not limited to the horizontal linear progression. instead, it also speaks a dialect of vertical language. the ramp and the bridge must learn this dialect and build vertically to make the city attainable and accessible to all of humanity. then the balcony may speak to the bike, and the stair my speak to the wheel-chair in passing, creating a new, more meaningful and purposeful conversation with the city and people
the subjects of the city are the pedestrian, the wheel chair, and the bicycle; elemental conjunctions of the city, the And’s and Or’s, are represented by the Ramp, the Porch and Balcony, the Bridge, and the Stair
the Porch and Balcony are the great between, the And/Or of the city. this is the relational communication between person and the out-door city. it is also an equalizer of access to the built city, whether it mirrors the city in a horizontal connection as the porch, or a vertical parameter as the balcony | the Stair is the great Or of the city; the Stair is not a punctuation point, or a place to pause, but it is a place to pass and engage by crossing. two perpendicular lines comprise its letters that combine to create a word, a directional angle that speaks to a movement of choice| the Ramp and Bridge are the great And of the city|
